Instead, only their username will be visible to the person they are chatting with, a feature that platforms like Telegram have already implemented successfully.

The messaging platform has released version 2.24.18.2 of WhatsApp Beta for Android, which is currently undergoing testing.

When fully implemented, the username feature will allow users to create a unique identifier linked to their WhatsApp account.

WhatsApp users will also be able to share their username with others to start conversations, eliminating the need to exchange phone numbers.

Furthermore, WhatsApp users can now start conversations by sharing their username, so they do not have to exchange phone numbers.

However, for users who already have each other’s phone numbers saved, the phone number will continue to be visible.

Another Beta version feature will help reduce spam by requiring a PIN (minimum of four digits) for anyone who has not interacted with the other user before, to start a chat, even if they know their username.

Meanwhile, it’s uncertain when the username feature or PIN support will exit beta, but several reports suggest that Meta’s messaging platform is unlikely to launch these features before the end of the year.

Earlier reports mentioned that WhatsApp is developing a feature that lets users reshare status updates where they have been mentioned, similar to a feature on Instagram.

This feature, which is still in development, will make it easier to share status updates where users have been tagged.

The “Reshare Status Updates” feature will let users share status updates where they have been tagged, making it simpler to pass on content to their contacts.
